Brescia University Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences

In 2008, the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Brescia began to offer an online bachelor of social work (BSW), and later a master of social work (MSW). The department also offers continuing education for social workers through four online courses and one on-campus course that students can complete at their own pace. These courses meet Kentucky Board of Social Work's continuing education requirements.

Brescia University is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The BSW and MSW programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

Online Social Work Programs

Students can begin their social work careers with Brescia's 63-credit AA in human services, a stepping stone to the BSW. The two-year AA focuses on issues such as case management, crisis counseling and intervention, and information systems.

Students pursuing the bachelor of social work need not attend any classes on campus. The BSW requires 128 credits, but the program allows learners to transfer up to 86 credits to meet general education requirements and complete the degree in just two years.

The master of social work offers a fully online curriculum. The online degree offers two formats: a full-time 30-credit advanced standing option that students complete in just nine months and a 60-credit part-time option that students can complete within two years. All online Brescia University social work degrees hold the same admission requirements as the on-campus versions.

On-Campus Social Work Programs

The on-campus MSW offers a full-time and part-time option. Students with a CSWE-accredited BSW earned in the last five years can enroll in the advanced standing option, completing 30 credits on a full- or part-time basis.

Learners with a non-social work degree and a minimum 3.0 GPA can enroll in the two-year, 60-credit MSW. The MSW curriculum and admission requirements are the same for the online and on-campus formats. On-campus students enjoy access to organizations such as the Social Work Club and Phi Alpha, which hold meetings on campus.
