Social Work Program Overview

FSU established its College of Social work in 1928, making it the oldest social work department in the state. This upholds the school’s reputation as a leader in social work education with the country’s first accredited online master’s degree in social work. The school helps graduates long after graduation with the Office of Professional Development, which provides continuing education for social work professionals who want to maintain their licenses and certificates. Online Social Work Programs

The Florida State University College of Social Work offers a master’s degree in social work online with tracks for students with bachelor’s degrees in social work and for those who do not hold a degree. Students who hold bachelor’s degrees in social work who take full-time courses graduate with 39 credits in two years. Full-time students from other educational backgrounds take three years and earn 61 credits. The school also offers a part-time option online. While distance degree students do not need to meet on campus, they must complete field experiences in their communities. Admissions requirements for an online master’s degree in social work program are the same as the on-campus option.

On-Campus Social Work Programs

The Florida State University College of Social work offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees on campus. The online and in-person master’s degrees require the same credits. On-campus graduate students can pursue their master’s degree in social work alongside MBAs, master’s degrees in public administration, or law degrees. Learners can take courses on the campuses in Tallahassee or Panama City, Florida. The Florida State social work school also offers certificates in child welfare practice, gerontology/aging studies, and Leadership in Executive and Administrative Development.
