Social Work Program Overview
The NSU social work department endeavors to educate professionals who can specialize in one area of social work or move among populations throughout their careers. The friendly faculty and staff dedicate themselves to helping learners discover the paths toward success. They freely offer their contact information and encourage learners to seek help for academic and career success. The department also provides a social work club, open to all majors. This student organization allows degree candidates to network and learn from one another. Students in the social work program also serve on university-wide committees and councils.
Online Social Work Programs
The Department of Social Work also offers a bachelor’s degree in social work entirely online. Students must complete 120 credits, including many in general education. Degree candidates may take courses full- or part-time and can change their enrollment status as needed. Online learners never have to attend classes on campus, but they must complete field experience hours in the final two semesters of the program. All learners must finish the pre-professional curriculum and maintain GPAs of at least 2.0 before officially becoming social work majors.
On-Campus Social Work Programs
NSU’s on-campus and online social work offerings are identical. The shared bachelor’s degree in social work curriculum includes courses in differential diagnosis techniques, research methods, cultural diversity, and contemporary issues in social policy. Students must first apply to NSU and meet the same admissions standards. Once learners meet the pre-professional program requirements, they can apply to the social work program. The prerequisites include introductory social work classes, college-level English, and demonstration of social work professional values.
