The Ohio State University began in 1870 as a land-grant university and now operates several satellite campuses within the state. Ohio State divides into more than 15 individual colleges, many of which focus on taking care of people. In addition to schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, and optometry, Ohio State teaches students to take care of others through the college of social work.

Social Work Program Overview

The Ohio State social work college has maintained accreditation by CSWE since 1919. The school provides social work education at the bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. levels as well as continuing education for practicing professionals. In all levels of instruction, the college aims to promote diversity, provide hands-on learning, teach immediately useful skills, and base all teaching in the latest evidence. Online Social Work Programs

The College of Social Work offers an online master’s degree in social work that provides options for learners with or without bachelor’s degrees in the same area. Furthermore, degree candidates can choose between part- and full-time studies. Applicants who earned a BSW in the last five years with a minimum 3.0 GPA qualify for advanced standing. These learners must earn 43 credits, while others complete 63 credits. Online learners on both tracks can learn anywhere in the United States and never need to attend on-campus classes. The school also offers two online continuing education courses for practicing social work professionals.

On-Campus Social Work Programs

While the Ohio State social work college only offers a master’s degree online, the school provides bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. programs for on-campus learners. Social work professionals can also complete continuing education through Ohio State, which helps keep their licenses current. Online and on-campus applicants for the master’s programs must meet the same requirements, including 3.0 GPAs. However, on-campus master’s degree students have access to some concentrations that the university does not provide online.
